Flexible Guidewire


Modern Grinding can help you craft a custom flexible guidewire for your next project. Some device makers call it a flexible guidewire, others call it a floppy guidewire but the idea is the same. You start with an outside guidewire diameter (which is theoretically considered stiff) and then grind down the radius of the wire to achieve flexibility in the wire via a taper or steps. You can grind through PTFE coating or you can grind and then coat it.

We have contract manufactured guidewires for international medical device brands, medical distributors, university research and veterinary clinics. Our machinery is highly automated for grinding flexible guidewire profiles which means increased repeatability and competitive pricing.

Modern Grinding can start with stainless steel, nitinol, ptfe coated wire or non metallic core wires and can precision grind a wire profile to suit your needs. A typical flexible guidewire will include tapering with some sort of cover over the wire such as a miniature coil or ptfe coating.

Modern Grinding has added pressure sensors, glass materials, microcoils, flat coils, and a variety of polymer coatings to guidewires in addition to grinding guidewires and making guidewire prototype kits. We would appreciate the opportunity to quote out your next project.
